Help!

Hi All,I had a discussion with a large Microsoft account which has more than 3800 CAL. Presently they are on Exchange 2000 server. This organisation is very happy with MS performance.

They are looking at the possibility of implementing a Document management &

workflow solution. I am fully aware that we have Domino.doc & Lotus workflow

as a strength. Since this organistaion is not willing to change their mail

system from MS to Lotus I would need your advise how to pursue them to use

Lotus workflow+Domino.doc with existing MS Ex.

and how to go ahead with it.

Thanx in advance,

Buwaneka

Subject: My advice …

… is just tell them it won’t interfere in the slightest with Exchange. Just point out the possible integration between Domino.Doc and MS Office.

Then back away. The Exchange folks will not likely be happy about any hint of messing with it.

Subject: Help!!!

There shouldn’t be a lot of problem. The one area that might be an issue is that workflows usually work with links back to some Notes document. For that, you have three possible solutions.

  1. Convert/create the workflow apps to send Notes URL links (notes://repid/viewid/noteunid format), which will allow the Outlook users to use the links and open the Notes documents. The only problem here is that even though the links should be “hot”, Outlook generally won’t let them be hot, so you may have to copy the link into a browser.

  2. Convert/create the workflow apps to send NDL attachments instead of links. Search in this forum for lots of info about NDL files, which are NotesDocLink files stored as text. This will work in Outlook clients.

  3. If it is too expensive to convert the workflow apps, or you want to use third party workflow apps, or you want to do the job with no development because you can’t cope with more developers working on this, take a look at our CoexLinks product, which converts links to NDL files or Notes URLs automatically in your server, so that even third party closed design systems can send your Outlook clients attachments that will work as links back to their Notes workflow. It is a commercial product, but may save you a lot of time and money.
