Whenever anyone in our organization receives and email from this one person (who is also internal in our org and using Lotus Notes 8.0.2) the following error message occurs when attempting to “Reply” to the email. It happens from all views and it happens every time. Field: ‘$Abstract’: Incorrect data type for operator or @Function: Text expected
The abstract field should contain a bit of what is in the body of the message. You should see if you can check the document properties, $Abstract field, on a message they sent, just to see what it is. But that’s more out of curiosity than solution.
I doubt this person is putting something strange in their message, so I would immediately suspect something wrong with their mail template. I would replace the mail template. A tip from experience: replace with something else, such as the journal template, and then replace back to the mail template.
In Release 8.0 we introduced the new feature “Conversations” which use a new item on the message called $Abstract. We discovered the same issue internally, and thought we had fixed it before the errant template was released publicly. I’m wondering if sender’s mail file is using one of the “pre-released” designs?
Please ask them (the sender whose emails are yielding the problem) to replace the design of their mail application and send you a test email. If the problem persists, let us know.
Note: The problematic emails will not be fixed; only emails sent after the sender replaces the design.
