HELP - trying to authenticate web users from LDAP directory

I have a web application on a Domino 6 server. The user accounts are all recorded in the Exchange directory.

I have setup Directory Assistance to point to this LDAP server with the following settings:

Basics tab

Make this directory available to: Notes Users/Internet Authentication

Group Authorization: No

Enabled: Yes

Naming Context (Rules) tab

N.C. 1

Enabled: Yes

Trusted for Credentials: Yes

LDAP tab

I am using an IP address for Hostname (could this be a problem?) and have a valid username password listed.

Channel encryption: None

The Domino server console is showing “Directory Assistance is reloading due to remote server failure” and also “08/30/2004 02:14:58 PM Error attempting to access the Directory *10.7.20.21:389 (no available alternatives), error is LDAP Server is NOT available.”

NPing DOES connect to the IP address on port 389.

I am unable to access this LDAP directory from my mail client with an Account document matching the settings described above.

Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong? Any ideas of ways to verify that my end is setup properly? Any ideas of where to look for more details concerning the attempt to connect to the other server?

Thanks in advance,

Marc Robson
