HELP: Truncated code lines in the debugger!

I came across a strange error, that really drives me cracy: While debugging code in a ScriptLibary, the code lines displayed in the debugger immediately is truncated at about line 450 and continues about 30 lines below. And when stepping through it, it jumps over the missing lines and does not, what should be done in these lines of code. I recreated the Library, copied each function and sub to a new one, but the error is not gone. I recompiled all Lotus Script, I used database fix, nothing changed. And, since it is a template, the same error appears in all databases based on the template. When I rearrange the Script (I use Classes), that means I copy the sub in the head of the class, the error appears in another sub or function. And it seams so that it’s not only in the debugger the code is truncated, but also when running it normally, since errors always occure at the missing lines. And strangely, no errors are raised, though some objects are not set.

I searched the forum and the Lotus Knowledge base for this error, but found no similar entries. Has anyone any idea why this is and how to solve this problem?

Subject: HELP: Truncated code lines in the debugger!

Tom,

We ran into problems when we had LotusScript code that was too many lines. We implemented two programming practices that have eliminated the error.

First, we found that it is the number of lines, not the length of the lines, that matter, so instead of putting multi-line comments above a line or section of code, we put our comments to the right of a line of code, even if the comment stretches out on that line for quite a number of bytes.

Second, we broke our code into smaller, more managable functions/subroutines which not only aids in maintaining the code, it helps make it easy to read by others.

Hi KenThanks for your tips. But unfortunatley, when you work with classes, they usually become much longer than subs or functions. In the same database I have a class with more than 2000 lines of code, and it works perfectly. But in this other class, with “only” about 800 lines, I get always in trouble. By the way, did you have the same error as I?

Tom,

The decision to break up code into smaller modules and place comments to the right was based on problems that preceded my arrival at this company. My boss just told me that they had faced problems with the earlier methodology. So, no, I have not seen the error you reported.
