Help on upgrade plan

Hi all,I was just told that I have to help a company do an upgrade that we support supposedly. but thats not the problem.

The problem is they are at domino R5 on windows 2000 and client version 5. I guess they only have 1 prod and 1 test server and only have a couple databases, they do not use notes for mail but have around 80 users. They want to be upgraded to 8.5 The servers will be going onto new hardware and the OS will go to 2003, my plan was to do the test server by installing R5 and then copying the files from the old server to the new server, giving server same name and IP as old server and then do an install of 8.5 over top. Test the db’s with the 5 client to see if they still work. if so then I would do prod the same way and then lastly do the clients. Does this sound good or is there a different way to do this.

Also I know R5 is not supported anymore but does anyone know if the 5 client would work on server 8.5

Thanks

Subject: One suggestion

Not sure R5 Domino will install on Windows 2003 - You might just skip that step as it should not be needed and just copy the program directory and data directory to the new server and run the 8.5 install… Also be sure to run the 8.5FP1 install as well…

R5 Clients should be Ok accessing but best to test it out as you have planned already.

Keep me posted how things go or if you run into any issues…
