I have field users accross the country using laptops with notes and occasionally they are getting the NSD is running window. Someone suggested that it could be mcaffee anti virus causing it to run. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this?

I believe you’ll find different things causing this. I had one PC here that did it randomly but often and replacing the RAM solved it.
If they can reproduce what causes the error it might help you find the source.

NSD is Notes System Diagnostic. It does a number of things, from generating a “stack and state dump” file to help troubleshoot the problem to killing Notes-related processes that would otherwise prevent a restart.

To expand on Stan’s good information:
NSD is started after the operating system experiences a failure. NSD gathers and saves the information necessary so that the cause of the problem can be determined.
Windows, for example, ships with a program called Dr. Watson which does the same thing. There can only be one program called when there is a problem with the system, and when you install Notes it “replaces” Dr. Watson with NSD.

For your NSD, like you said it could be Mcafee.
We’ve opened an incident about this. In our case, Mcafee was the problem.
You can check your NSD file for something like NCSCAN and GetRepairObject
