I have 4 users that have the following issue with Mail Color Preferences.
From the Inbox, he/she selects Tools-Preferences-Colors. User than selects the “Sender Name” and then selects a color. When the user clicks OK to save this change, the error “You are not authorized to perform that operation” appears. The colors are not saved.
We have tried the following:
-
Verified that “Mail File Owner” is accurate.
-
Verified user access to the database is sufficient. Users have manager access.
-
Removed and re-added user to the ACL.
-
Deleted the Color Profile as per Lotus Tech Support recommendation using a button.
-
Deleted cache.ndk and re-created bookmark.nsf
-
Recreate user’s “Location” document.
-
Tried a compact -c -i.
-
Added myself as manager in ACL to the user’s mail database, I’m able to change the colors without problems.
Then I proceeded with the following testing:
Note:
testnotes = Domino lab server
prodnotes = Domino production server
-
As suggested by Lotus Tech Support, they wanted me to re-register the user called John to get him a new ID. Instead I created a new John Doe in my lab environment (testnotes) which generated a new mail and ID.
-
I opened the mail db on prodnotes with new ID and tried changing the colors but got the same error as before. I did not take the new public key in the new ID to put it in the prodnotes person record. So in fact the ID and the person record public key were not in sync.
-
With the new ID and the new mail db on testnotes changing colors works fine.
-
I replicated John’s mail database from prodnotes to testnotes. Using my Lab Location document, I switched to John’s new ID and I was able to change colors on the new replica db on testnotes.
-
I opened John’s prodnotes person record, I copied his public key and pasted it into the testnotes person record. I wanted to see if the public key being out of sync could cause that. But in fact I checked his prodnotes ID against his prodnotes person record and they match.
-
When I leave the Location to Lab (pointing to testnotes) and I swtich to his prodnotes ID, I’m able to change the colors on his replicated (testnotes) mail database
-
When I leave the Location to Lab (pointing to testnotes) and I use his prodnotes ID to change colors on his prodnotes database it WORKS!??? It seems to be related to the server listed in the location document.
-
I connected to user’s PC and I tried creating a new location document called Office John and he still can’t change the colors. For some reason, it seems to be when the prodnotes is listed in the location document that he has this issue???
Lotus Tech Support’s solution to this bizarre problem is that I replicate the user’s mail to another location, delete the production mail and put the replica in its place.
Since I started with one user with this problem, I now got 4 users with this same issue. I’m curious to know if any of you have encountered this problem and how you have resolved it? I’d like to know what causes it… so I can advise users.
