Having duplicate mails while using outlook (pop3)

I am using outlook to download e-mails via POP3. Somehow if resetup the same outlook profile (in case of accounts corruption or PC breakdown) it will redownload all the mail from the Lotus mailbox starting from the begining even if the mail already exist in outlook mailbox causing a mail duplication.

Is there anyway to prevent this mail duplication ?

Isn’t this the nature of POP3 (not an expert).

I thought POP3 pulls down all new mail. As you had to reconfigure things - all your “pointers” are lost and therefore all the mail looks like it’s new.

How about when i log in to my outlook.

then all my inbox all show unread? Although all the mails i already read.

Are there anyway to prevent it ?
