We have an application that is written TO the Outlook client (really sucky programming on the 3rd party’s part I know… but)… I figured we could use DAMO and viola… we have our Outlook client. NO. DAMO does not work on a CITRIX server. So… now they want to ADD an Exchange server into our environment… Has anyone out there done this? Things to know? Gotcha’s? Prayers?
Thanks
Ruth
Subject: Domino application for Outlook?
Can you explain what you mean when you say that the Domino application is “written to the Outlook client”? Does that mean that Outlook is used, for example, to send mail or is the app really integrated with/accessed from Outlook?

As I read Ruth’s posting, she has an application (not a Domino app, although there’s nothing keeping it from being one) that does messaging as one of its functions – but the dimwit who created the app assumed that nobody would use anything other than Outlook as a mail client. The messaging portion of the application uses Outlook hooks to send mail, which won’t work with Notes.
She is trying to make it work with a Notes mail system, and thought that using DAMO would be the best “bridge” – the existing application could go on talking to Outlook, but the mail would actually happen in Notes. Unfortunately, her Citrix environment is making that more difficult than it needs to be.
I’m afraid I can’t offer any solution, even if I do understand the problem. Sorry.

APPARANTLY…this program (Misys) makes calls to the Outlook library of objects… which at times may or may not include mail calls… they wrote these in at the program level… calling Outlook objects specifically…and are apparantly unwilling to rewrite any of their code to be more flexible. So we now have a group of users that will be using Exchange… while the rest of the 1300+ users will use Lotus Notes…

The MEDICAL Misys? You’d think security would be a concern for them, wouldn’t you?
Subject: Yes, that one. and yes… I would but…
it appears they have no choice… what bothers me is that it was programmed that way… so short sighted and limited… and I KNOW other hospitals that use Notes…
