I have a notes database that currently has the group OTC_SALESACCOUNTMANAGERS in the ACL. That group has about 10 nested within it.
Well we just reorg’ed our whole Sales allignement so I needed to create brand new groups. (long story as to why I can’t just rename them.)
The new group name that will now go in the ACL is called Sales AMs and is muli-purpose. This group also has about 8 groups nested within it. Examples of some of these nested names are as follows:
Sales Group South East Gulf AMs
Sales Group West Mountain AMs
Sales Group West Plains AMs
I can send emails to Sales AMs and it gets to all of the people in the nested groups. However, when I add Sales AMs to the ACL of the above database, no one is authorized to access it. I give it the exact same rights as the OTC_SALESACCOUNTMANAGERS and same roles. The nested groups are spelled correctly everywhere.
To troubleshoot even further, i took Sales AMs out of the acl and added one of the nested groups and gave the same rights and roles. Still…not authorized…so leading me to believe it has something to do with the group name?
They are all multipurpose and you can send mail to the fine. The ACL’s just don’t like my new groups.
I took the main group out of the ACL called Sales AMs which was returning You are not authorized to access this database for the users in it.
The Sales Ams group had nested groups in them which I listed examples of in the previous thread.
So to troubleshoot, I took out Sales AMs and added the nested groups to the ACL to see if they could get in the database. Still, You are not authorized to access this database.
So whether I use Sales AMs or the individual nested groups with all the right rights and roles…they still get this not authorized message. All groups are multipurpose.
If you just created the groups the user’s group membership cache is probably not updated yet. Make sure the groups have replcated to each user’s home mail server then have the user reauthenticate with the server (close Lotus Notes then re-open). This should refresh the user’s group membership cache on the client. You can see what the group cache looks like by pressing the little button in the status bar at the bottom right, just to the left of the Location indicator window which probably says “Office”.
