Group Internet address

Hi,

I faced a problem on configuring the group Internet address.

When I tried to send mail to the group address through SMTP, it showed the message “Recipient could not be found in the Domino directory”.

After that, tried to send the mail to a user Internet address, it works.

I also performed the command “tell adminP process all” and “tell router config update”, but the probelm is still there.

Please advice.

Did you make these changes on your SMTP gateway host? If not, did you replicate your names.nsf to that host?

thanks the reply, shawn

there is only one domino server at my site and no smtp gateway installed. And I just use telent to the port 25 for the smtp test.

thanks

Try these at your console:

Tell Router Quit

Tell SMTP quit

load Router

load SMTP

This will force your server to rebuild the address index.

Time will take care of this also.

it’s same as before. But the problem is not on all the group internet address, it’s on most of these.

thanks.

Ryan,

Not quite sure I follow you.

When you create a new groups in names.nsf and specify the internet address you are specifying the address like this.

‘groupname@yourdomain.com’

where groupname is the unique identifier you want for that group for internet mail

AND

yourdomain.com is the domain that the server accepts mail for correct?

Shawn,

Yes, the domain name is configued on the person and the group with same name. And it works on the person and some of the groups.

By the way, i’ve restored the names.nsf and the problem is seem to solved.

Many thanks,

Ryan

I had a similar problem that was addressed by Lotus support.

It seems that Groups cannot have more than one internet address. When I had two or more addresses in this field, no emails came through. Also, “Group names” cannot be email addresses with @s in them.

The work around for multiple group email addresses is to create a new user (no connected mail/nsf file required) as a proxy for the group. Put the internet address of the group in the “forwarding address” field, and put all aliases (or other email addresses) in the “User Name” field. I kept the “Mail system” as Notes. Now multiple variations of the group internet address deliver mail to the group members.

Lotus says that groups may be modified to have multiple aliases in future releases.
