Have some Google gadgets for twitter/stocks/weather,etc. in the sidebar, added using the widgets toolbar and have been working fine. Today widgets don’t display as apps but instead display dysfunctional url:
Contacted someone outside my company and they reproduced this issue - none of their Google gadgets in the sidebar work but instead display text like above. Any thoughts out there? Made no changes to my client workstation since yesterday other than turning it off/on. That others I’ve contacted are getting this behavior tells me it may be an issue at Google? Have an Notes view as a widget in the sidebar,it works. Have some full-window widgets, like Wikipedia, and it works. It’s the Google gadgets added through the Widget toolbar [‘Configure a Widget from the Current Context…’] that are not working all of a sudden.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time looking for the fix/workaround/solution as obviously it’s Google that has changed something.
It’s just a shame that something that seemed so useful - and easy to implement - no longer works. I’m just trying to learn all the new ins and outs of R8/R8.5 as I’ve been working in R6 and R7 environments for so long and this product is a substantial, to me at least, departure or change from previous Notes releases.
And as others have commented on this forum and in R8.5 as well, there’s not a lot of documentation packed into the new product describing the underpinnings of widgets and one must search these forums and other blogs and wikis to gleen anything of use about them. Shame on me for getting too behind the curve…
This was definitely an issue on Google’s site. As of 12/08/2009, everything should be up and running. We have an SPR that was opened up on IBM side of things that tracked the issue: HBJW7Y76JB.
I posted the issue to Google’s developer site (iGoogle Developer Forum), but the site is moderated and it’s been days and my post is not showing, so I’m not sure who fixed it if anyone.
