Getting some solutions for tricky problems

Hi all,

Hope all of you don’t mind my stupid questions. Right now i am facing 2 kinds of problems:

  1. My program need to run in this manner:

    • An end user decides to create a new form;

    • He click on “Create” and a form appeared stating “Section 1”

    • Then below the form will have 2 buttons

    • 1 of them is to query the end user for his next action

    • if he decide to go for next section, a new form appear with “Section2” while if he decide to go for sub-section a new form with 1.1 will appear.

    • Question: “How do I perform this number sequence?”

  2. As I am creating new document in a server, there will exist a scenario where enduserA will press “Create” and i generate a serial number for that document (eg 001) and enduserB on other part will also press “Create” and i generate “002” for his document.

Now if enduserA close that document without saving it, then only document will serial number “002” will exist while “001” will NOT EXIST. Is there anyway to solve this problem?

If the problems sound stupid to anyone of you, i would like to apologize but i reali a newbie for this lotusscript hence would like to understand more through this forum. THanx

Hi Hengshi,

This is one approach…

  1. You can divide your form content using DIV tags, initially all hidden. On clck on the buttons, you can toggle the display of these DIV tags (and hence your content/section). The section numbers can be hardcoded in them as part of the content itself. If you want to make this generic, you can use a JS global variable to track which section is currently being displayed.

  2. Logically, if all these saved documents are processed by a single central entity, this can be done. You can place the numbering logic in an agent. All created (saved) documents can initially appear in a view (un-numbered docs) and get stamped by the agent with a running serial number.

If the numbering logic is done on form-compose, then it becomes difficult.

Hope that helps !

Hi S S N,

thanx for your responses, but i do have a few doubts

  1. I intend to make the entire coding generic as i find hardcoding do have its disadvantages. So i intention was to create a form that is generic for all sub and sections. The problem i faced now is how to i make the program “intelligent”?

I thought of using counter but i do need a global counter such that once i click on sub- it will count from 1, 1.1, 1.2 and if possible 1.2.1 ,1.2.2 etc and when then return back to 2,3,4…

  1. As for this solution, i can visualize what you mean. Your intention is to create the serial number only after the enduser click on “Save”? This one, i can considered. thank alot
