Get Data from Access Database for Form -- Please help :)

Hey guys, heres some basic info ahead of time:

We are running Notes Server 6.5 with DECS installed and running.

I’m trying to create a DCR to connect to an Access Database, and read data from it. What I plan to do is design a form such that the user enters in one field in the form (Like an account number), then it queries the access DB, looks for a match to what they entered, and then pulls data out and auto-fills the rest of the fields (Like name, address, phone #, etc etc).

Is this possible? Do I need LEI, and if so what is that and do I need to pay for it? I’ve been browsing the forums here for a good 60-90 minutes and haven’t really found what I’m looking for, but I may just be searching wrong.

So far I’ve gone through and created an ODBC connection on my local PC to the access database I want to query. Then I created a DCR:

Named Test1

Class RDBMS

Type OLE DB

Datasource NewTest1 (Thats the ODBC name)

I went into the options tab and told it that its an access 2000 database (Not SQL). Then I tried to Browse Metadata and I got:

“Server Error: Realtime service encountered a missing or invalid Data Connection Resource”.

Again, any help is much appreciated. Please help if you can :). Just point me in the right direction.

After going through the same excercise in futility, I finally used @dbcommand to execute a SQL statement to get the values I needed from an external DB. I’m assuming that you aren’t writing back to the external DB. We own LEI (paid $10k for the privilege) , and it is really just DECS with more bells and whistles. In my opinion, RDBMS DB integration continues to be a weakness in Notes. Not because it can’t be done, but because the tools are so primitive compared to MS, Macromedia, Crystal Reports, FileMaker… anything seems to be easier to use than Notes for this task (whew -I feel better).Also - you can’t develop a DCR on a local DB;

The client software for the application you are connecting to – such as DB2 or ODBC – must also be installed on the Domino server. You can develop an application locally, but you will be unable to browse the external metadata when designing your application.
