I need to know whether it is possible at all to recover a deleted attachments from an email. The email hasn’t been deleted but the attachment has. Is there any way to recover it? Apart from backups of course. Does the attachment go to any sort of recycle bin, either on the server, within the mailfile or on the PC.
By the way, I’d like the answer to be no, this is about security rather than losing information.
Cheers
Dan

OK
NO (my opinion)
unless you are a good hacker with good contacts in the Lotus Development team and you try and dig into the internals to find the lost attachment.

Thanks for the response
What are the ‘internals’ that you might have to dig into? Is that on the server, in the mailfile itself?

In the NSF file itself

OK, thanks

Well, Notes doesn’t put it anywhere for recovery, if that’s what you mean. HOWEVER – it may still exist in a recoverable form on disk anyway, even if it’s just a temp directory image that was created when the user viewed the attachment. If this is about real security, a scheduled shredding of temporary directories and the recycle bin should be considered mandatory – even with encrypted drives. Beyond that, physically securing the machine is the next step.
