GDM Freeze on Ubuntu

Not sure if is related to my required 64-bit OS (need the RAM for VMs), but when clicking back into my mail file from a standard Notes app, the GDM freezes every time.

Ubuntu 8.04.1 64-bit on HP Compaq 8510w with nVidia 570M VGA, running Compiz.

Will have to resort to Beta 1 for now.

I have removed all other JVM apart from ia32-sun-java6 and seem OK for a while and then started to freeze the GDM.

Subject: 64 bit Ubuntu

We don’t official support 64 bit Ubuntu. I would like to look at this problem and have few questions

  1. Could you provide the steps that you use to get the ia32-libs and any other libs that you needed to have notes startup

  2. are you using --force-architecture option on the dpkg -i during the install of the deb packages or what options are you using?

Thanks,

Steve

Subject: RE : 64 bit Ubuntu

Hi Thanks for the reply. I expected that this would not be the case, but some of us are forced to use the 64-bit OS for RAM as we are heavy VMWare Workstation and IBM product users/consultants.

What I have noticed is that the GDM crash occurs if I repeatedly switch between the Mail File and a standard Notes app when comparing text. I seems quite stable otherwise. Thought this was the same issue when resizing Notes when in the mail template, but that seems to be resolved now.

[2] Yes I am using “–force-architecture”.

[1] I will attach a document that I use so that I remember what to do to get it running, thanks to Ubuntu and Eclipse communities than a bit from myself.

I am not using “linux32 /opt/ibm/…” to launch Notes, just directly launching Notes.

Any recommendations with using Notes as a 32-bit app on a 64-bit OS will be most appreciated.

I have been meaning to say that Notes 8.5 Beta 2 is so much better and really does not give me many issues. Thanks for the hard work with 8.0.2 and 8.5… looking great !

Regards

Mark

Subject: Need a copy of uploaded doc

Is there a chance I can get a copy of that doc I uploaded ? It was the most up to date and I never kept a spare… now lost. HA HA HA.

Also need to update because libs from 8.5 CD12 Release Notes really improve performance on 64-bit. I was getting 8.0 performance before on 64-bit.

Many thanks

Mark

May have been local JVM conflict (ia32-sun-java6 & gcj/icedtea)… If you don’t have another response then is resolved.
