FYI, There is a bug in the current (and previous) versions of SAVF that causes/allows a certain number of virus-carrying emails to not be detected correctly.
some background
Over the past couple of weeks, I had rec’d notification that the desktop Syman./Norton client had been catching a small number of Beagle, Netsky, etc. emails.
This has been happening even though I’ve been running the intelligent updater to update my Domino servers whenever Symantec released an update.
What the above meant was that the clients (using liveupdate defs, which are released pretty much weekly) were catching viri that my Domino servers weren’t (using more current defs).
That’s odd, so I called Symantec support and listened to their pretty music forEVER and finally got a tech.
It seems that certain viri emails that contain .zip files are being incorrectly flagged as enrypted by SAVF for Domino and not scanned at all!
According to the tech, v3.1 build 81 will address this and is in final testing. Since we have gold support, the only way for me to find out when it’s released is to keep calling back (and listening to the hold music).
So, if anyone has a platinum agreement (they get notified via email) and wants to post here when the release is available, I’d appreciate it!
