Fuzzy Search returns inaccurate results

I don’t get how Fuzzy Search suppose to work.

I’m searching for a particular word and if I turn OFF Fuzzy search, Domino returns 17 docs. If I turn Fuzzy search ON, then I only get 11 docs. I’d thought that Fuzzy Search will return more documents. Now, if I examine the missing 6 documents, one of the document has the exact word in the subject field but fuzzy search did not find it. However, Fuzzy Search hightlights a document that has the exact same word in the subject field. I don’t understand why why Fuzzy Search pick one over the other.

Experts, any idea why Fuzzy Search is so fussy??

Curious whether you ever received an answer to this. I get the same error for single-word searches. If I enter two words or a phrase (say, “electronic format”), I get more results with fuzzy search enabled than I do with fuzzy search disabled. If I enter one word (say, “electronic”), I get many fewer results with fuzzy search enabled.

A couple of months ago I called IBM Support about this and got the “we’ve never heard of that happening before” response. I suggested they pay attention to this forum. The fellow I spoke with did suggest upgrading the discussion database in question using the ND6 template, and that helped. (Using the old version, I got inaccurate results for multi-word searches also.)

One answer would be for me to tell my users not to use fuzzy search for single-word searches, but it raises a trust issue (i.e., "how do I know I’m getting all the results I should be getting on my multi-word searches?).

Here is another strange result. If I search from within Notes w/ Fuzzy search turned on, I get 11 documents. But, over the web, it says it’s got 18 documents but only display the exact same set of 11 documents. I’m just using the default TotalHits var new in R6 for the web search result. Maybe a bug?
