Funky Readers/$Readers in Domino Directory

Let’s see if I can describe what I’m experiencing clearly:

I have two mailing list documents in my Domino Directory. I have an ACL group in this directory, too, that I wish to use to allow a specific group of people to see this mailing list when sending email. I also have my Admin ACLs that I want to have rights, obviously, to see everything.

I set up a Readers field on the mailing lists that had my Admin ACLs in it. I then unchecked the “All readers and above” box and added (and checked) my user ACL. This, per design, places them in the $Readers field.

I did this for both mailing lists, so they essentially looked like this:

ML1 Readers: Admin ACL Group

ML1 $Readers: User ACL Group

ML2 Readers: Admin ACL Group

ML2 $Readers: User ACL Group

When I do this, ML1 remains visible to me in my directory (I am in the Admin ACL Group). However, ML2 disappears. ML1 remains visible to me even when I delete the Readers field completely, leaving ONLY the User Group in the $Readers field.

ML2, on the other hand, disappears from me even though I am in the Admin group in the Readers field, and is ONLY visible to my User Group in the $Readers field.

I can see NOTHING different about ML1 and ML2. I am STUMPED!

This has been taken from a technote that solved the same issue I had…I hope this helps.

Problem

In Notes R5, certain groups have Readers list restrictions enforced so that internal users cannot select one of these groups from the Domino Names & Address Book. The primary purpose of these groups is to receive internet mail.

After an upgrade from Notes R5 to Notes R6, internet messages are returned with the following error message:

Router: Unable to deliver message 005A00E7 to mjones@dyn941115169.austin.xxxx.com

Not authorized to send mail to this user or group.

In Notes releases before 6.0.3, Readers list restrictions are enforced by the router so messages from random internet users are all rejected. Adding Anonymous to the Readers list has no effect.

This issue was reported to Lotus software Quality Engineering and was fixed in Notes Release 6.0.3. The field, RouterDisableReadersField=1, was added to the NOTES.INI file. This allows the router to ignore Readers list restrictions.
