Full Text Search looking for text "1" instead of numeric 1

My users are trying to search a view using the full text search bar and adding a Field condition of ‘fieldName contains 1’. It only returns one document, instead of the hundreds expected, and on that document the field is stored as text “1”. Edit and save that document and the field reverts to numeric 1 as per the design. Now the search returns nothing.

Searching this forum I discovered that the data type in the search is decide by the data type of the field on the first document searched. My question is: does this include default values of “”? For this to work, am I going to have to audit every single document (100K+) to save nulls as numeric 0? Or can I get away with making sure there are no text numerals there, just text nulls, and rebuilding the fti?

Many thanks

You can use “NOT ([FIELDNAME] IS PRESENT)” to find empty fields, and “[FIELDNAME] = 1” to find numeric values

Hope that helps
