Front end & back end classes

why front end classes & back end classes are called as so.

Front end are things that you can see. Back-end are the things that you do not see. You can only use the Front-end classes while in the Notes Client.

Front end classes are those which are used to work on the currently open things, say currently opened documents, current db etc. Back end classes are used to work on things which are not open, like retrieving data from a document in memory.
