Hi I am going to start a very fresh application on Purchase request,it’s a basically flow of the process which involves in for requesting for a purchase.
I can design this application for Lotus Client. But the requirements are for both client and web based.
I don’t have very good idea in web.Now my hiccups are from where to start, how do i design the forms and views which can be used in Both the environments.
Still i don’t know that should i design different forms and views for both the environment.
In my organizations peoples are using webmail if they are out from the office, how can i make the application online.
Can some one guide how can i start with.

Subject: Fresh Start-Web application and Client Application
I’ll start by saying, just get started and see what it brings. To add to this, keep in mind:
-
Make sure any @Functions and @Commands you use for web are supposed to work over the web, many don’t.
-
Personally, I’ve found that trying to develop web and notes apps problematic and very difficult to balance properly. Unless it’s a simple form you are using, I’d plan to use two forms, one for web, one for Notes, but with the same name and alias on both, just one hidden for Notes, one hidden for Web.
-
The trusty, save and close using formula and/or javascript works well, but personally, I use WebQueryOpen and WebQuerySave agents for all my work. That way you can use Lotusscript for most of the work and its so much faster than javascript and formula. We had a web app that was written in formula mostly. I just finished rewriting it the way I wanted. The speed increased dramatically! It went from 15-20 seconds to open a large form to about 7-10.
-
Definitely don’t use the JAVA applet for views. Instead use a $$ViewTEmplateDefault form. The action bar applet works well though.
-
If you are using rich text editors, don’t use Domino’s, they bite! I have an example of a much better and free editor that I use extensively and have customized a lot for Notes.
I have some examples out there on things that can be done. I have a sample db out on this site too. It doesn’t do the work for you, but if you are committed to learning how to make things work for web development this’ll get you started in the right direction and not waste time doing things the wrong way.
It’s under the “Rich Text editor and more examples” topic.
