Hi,I’ve set up a forwarding rule to copy all mail to an external email address. The rule is active in the Notes client (7.0.3) but Domino doesn’t seem to be even attempting to send anything. This happens for all users on our system. Rules that move messages into local folders however work fine. Does anyone know what might be causing this - is it a known bug? Would installing FP1 help? Thanks in advance for any help.
Subject: Forwarding rule not working
Hi
A couple of questions…
-
Can you forward emails on the same way? (To eliminate access problems)
-
Can you telnet to the port server and send an email?
-
Where are the mails being held? On the local mail.box? The server mail.box? Is the server sending any message to the user?
-
Did you by any chance created a rule and then deleted the rule without turning it off first? That could cause problems.
Subject: RE: Forwarding rule not working
Hi,1) Forwarding manually works fine.
-
Not sure how to send email in telnet?
-
Emails are being held on th server mail.box. User isn’t getting any messages.
-
Yes almost certainly I did that - is there a fix after that has happened?
Thanks for your help Sebastian.
Subject: make sure forwarding rule is allowed by the server
Look up the configuration document for the server in names.nsf.Router/SMTP | Restrictions and Controls | Delivery Controls.
The field User rules mail forwarding should be set to enabled.

Hi Hans,I checked and that setting is enabled.
Subject: Forwarding rule not working
Could have this been “blocked” as a corporate policy in the past? (Assuming you’re a Lotus Notes Admin?)
Make sure you know your companies policy. I know for both the company I work for and the one I’m contracted to have “blocked” this feature as they do not want / risk what corporate confidential information available on the internet. (You cannot enforece company policies on external sites.)
Subject: RE: Forwarding rule not working
Hi,Thanks for responding. We don’t have any policies set up - I’m the (only) company-wide admin. for Notes & everything else.
Subject: RE: Forwarding rule not working
(Sorry to ask the dumb questions - but I don’t want to make any assumptions).
There is no problem forwarding e-mail to the external e-mail address?
It’s only when using the rule?
Could there be any logic errors in the rule?
Does it work if instead of a rule you set-up an agent?
Subject: RE: Forwarding rule not working
Hi,Yes forwarding manually works fine (to the same address used in the rule), only using a rule does it fail (I tried changing to send to different addresses). The condition is “When all documents” and action is “Then send full copy to [email address]” with no exceptions. Haven’t tried setting up an agent to do this - would prefer if users can set up their own forwarding rules if possible.
