JeOS is an optimized OS for VMWare… runs in 32MB of the 128MB RAM Required. 300MB OS file footprint and supports Paravirtualisation unlike M$ OS’s.
Takes less that 15 minutes to build, update and configure from scratch. This is both the standard 32-bit/64-bit physical server and 32-bit JeOS versions.
Would be less with VMWare if we did Lotus Appliances. May be the way to go.
Domino installation as Deb files would make sure that all the requirements are met, and if not it can go and get them.
The physical server version is as good, and will run on most kit, and Canonical offer support where hardware vendors do not. We have tested it on HP DLxxx G5 servers (64-bit) and every thing runs fine, including NIC Bonding (equiv to HP Teaming).
Only issue is the lack of Lotus software support for JeOS, so no backups , Blackberry and Anti Virus at the mo.
Been running it for a handful of live users since R8 bet3 and still no NSD.
Would be easier to get out there than Notes I believe.
Anyway just a dream. What do folks think ?
