Font size & SMTP conversion problems

Hello everybody.

I’ve got a problem with our business partners: they complain that the font size of our messages is too small. I’ve changed the mail template and set up the default body font to Arial, 11. But it didn’t solve the problem, because when we reply to their messages, the font is not Arial 11 (it depends on the message we answer, not on our clients and templates settings). It seems like our server convert messages to smaller size, because they complain that their initial messages in our history are in smaller font than their copies of initial messages. Is it possible to adjust our server to convert SMTP messages properly, or at least to set up the default font not to depend on initial messages?

With best regards,

Jaroslav

P.S. Our business partners use MS Outlook.

This is an extremely frustrating problem with Notes. In general, the only way I know to control this is to select all the text on the outgoing message and reassign the font size. If you don’t do this, Outlook consistently gives you a microscopic font view. It drives my recipients nuts!!! It didn’t used to happen. Is anyone at IBM/Lotus listening??

This is not just a problem with Outlook. After many complaints, I checked my replies on a web mail site, ie. viewing the history text via my browser (okay, so it is Internet Explorer for you conspiracy theorists). The font is virtually unreadable for messages replied to using the Notes Client. However, the font is okay (ie. the same as the reply text) for messages replied to using iNotes.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Subject: font size & SMTP conversion problems - solution

Did some more digging around in the forum and found this solution from IBM:

I made the suggested changes in both my local and server address books. I don’t know which one fixed the problem (I suspect the server address book), but now my reply with history text is readable.

Thanks to the forum for the solution. I hope this helps someone else, too.

Thanks for posting the results of your digging, helped me too, to solve the problem.

HOWEVER after just applying the change in the server’s Directory, the problem wasn’t fixed.

After creation of an International MIME doc in the private address book though, the problem WAS FIXED!

Therefore I bet the latter is needed (eventhough mail is sent via the server and not directly to the Internet), maybe together with the former or on it’s own.

Someone more inclined to experimenting is invited to find out which.
