Font list is garbled

The font drop-down lists for my Notes clients (including the Admin and Designer clients) contain strange, garbled characters. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks -Omar

Check your win.ini file to see if there is a font substitute listed there for one of the fonts used by Notes (times new roman, microsoft sans serif, arial, etc.)- then go to your Fonts folder (c:\windows\fonts) and see if that font is missing- that is usually the problem.

Alternatively it may be too many fonts on your system - anything over around 250 can cause problems. It started at LD 6.0 for me - the betas were fine - and I had to get Extensis Suitcase out of retirement to solve it on a Win 2000 client.

I have no idea why you are seeing garbled names (need more info – what OS, what Locale, etc.).

As to Robin’s comments about too many fonts, R5 and earlier only supported about 250 fonts on your system. With Notes 6, you can have many more fonts on your system (I think 1000 or so).

There was a bug introduced just before Notes 6 shipped where some of the fonts (depending on font name, etc.) were inadvertently omitted from the font list. This bug was fixed in 6.0.1. In 6.0, you can workaround the problem by setting

FontTaggedNames=1 in notes.ini. This will cause some fonts that really shouldn’t appear in the list to be there (this is harmless). The notes.ini does not do anything in 6.0.1 and beyond.
