First experience with iNotes Ultralite for iPhone/iPod touch

So after installing the 8.5 Beta 2 i tested iNotes Ultralite on my iPod touch for the first time.

In general I like it but like to share some experiences:

My first issue that I had was that I still got the old redirect login (which forced me to login every time I used it on my iPod … very annoying).

So I checked the webredirect.nsf but it was already upgraded to the 8.5 template. I went into the settings made “save and close” and voila now I get the new login window resized for the iPod (and with the “remember me” mark).

After getting to the Ultralite startpage I bookmarked it and added it to the home screen (it has a nice lotus notes logo there).

The inbox is nice but I hate the fact that you can only delete mails piece by piece. But more worse is the fact that the body of an email isn’t resized correctly so you have to scroll left and right or zoom out! This issue definately needs a change.

You have all your mails via “All docs” but I really miss my folders (and I have a lot of emails organised in folders).

The calender is good for the “current day view” but if you want to go to a later date you have to go there day by day as it seems there is no way to select a certain date and jump there. No being able to create a new appointment decreases the real life usability a lot. I can’t really understand why this is missing here (as creating an email and creating a new contact is possible).

Regarding the contacts … it has the basic information (tel, email, address) but some more would be nice.

So in general I would say this is a good start for a webapp but there’s also alot of room for improvement.

Subject: Thanks for the feedback!

Regarding the scaling of message content, a couple of questions:

Are you seeing this all the time, or only with certain messages?

Is the entire page sized incorrectly or are you seeing the body text run off to the right?

One of the issues we have displaying ‘rich’ content is that the original layout of the message doesn’t necessarily wrap nicely. This means that some messages might overflow to the right, but you should be able to push over to see it, resize or tilt the iPhone/touch to get a landscape view. You could be running into this issue.

Regarding the features, your list is exactly the kind of thing we’re looking for. How would you prioritize these items against each other? Which are musts vs nice to haves (assuming there are any). What would keep you from deploying?

Thanks.

Subject: Answer

Regarding the scaling of message content:Yes, the scaling of the content is only wrong for some but not all messages (with the body text run off to the right). As you said, if the text “overflows” I can push over to read it but it is a real pain for longer emails.

Regarding priority of features I would make this list:

  1. Creating Calendar entries (as just a calendar reader is not good for daily work)

  2. Access to folders (as I am highly organized with my mailbox)

  3. Calendar picker to jump to a date (even more important if creating calendar entries works)

  4. Delete mails from the inbox (instead of going into the document)

  5. More information in the contacts

While 4 & 5 are “nice to have” I would call 1-3 “must-have” as these are important if this product will be used in a real work environment.

Subject: In particular, what ‘additional’ information are you looking for in Contacts? Thanks for the feedback.

Subject: Add’l contact information

  • Additional email Adresses (only one work is displayed)- Other information section (like website and birthday)

  • comments / attachment section

Regarding comments / attachement (not related to ultralite): I am using this for some additional information about the contact. This information is mostly non-public. Therefore I was a little disapointed to see that this information is included in the vcards that can be created!

Subject: * I agree, but would say 1 to 4 are must haves
