We have replicas of all databases on all servers. We want a doc link sent to a user to point to the user’s home server, since this is the nearest server to the user.
It seems that in a system promoted as a distrbuted system this would be a piece of cake. Clearly it isnt.
We dont want all users to have have local replicas on their desktops of all corporate db.

Subject: Finding nearest server replica
If an icon for the database replica is on the user’s desktop, clicking a doclink opens the document in that replica. If the icon doesn’t exist, the document is opened in the replica from which the doclink is created.
(You might try using Desktop Settings documents to assure that users have bookmarks to the databases they’ll be using.)
