Finally got server to 6.0.3 - here's how:

Windows NT 4 server, had been running 6.0.1 Domino just fine with no issues.

Upgraded via incremental installer to 6.0.2.CF1, all went good. Server started and ran normally.

Next, upgraded via 6.0.2.CFx-to-6.0.3 incremental installer but upgrade process failed at very end. Got wierd “There are no version resources in this executable. It is either corrupt or built wrong” error message. Tried to start server anyway and got missing ninotes.dll and jvm errors. Found and copied a 6.0.3 ninotes.dll from another machine and the server would then start, but would crash after a few minutes with “access violation”, never would start the http task due to the missing jvm.

Server seemed totally hosed now.

Repaired server via a re-install downgrade, using the 6.0.2.CF1 cdrom. It ran ok again.

Got brave and tried the 6.0.1.CF1-to-6.0.2.CF2 incremental installer and the upgrade procedure completed with no errors, but server would not start at all this time. Would not even give an error message, only would pop up the black Windows console box for a split second, then disappear. Server was totally hosed once again.

Since I now had nothing to lose… just for grins I tried the 6.0.2.CFx-to-6.0.3 incremental installer once again. This time it ran 100% to completion, with no errors reported.

Server now starts up fine and seems to run normally.

Go figure. B-/

Are just about all these incremental installers since after 6.0.1 a bunch of bad news???

Hello Neal,

we’ve got the best results using the full installer.

We never used the incrementel installers and we has had never problems with update to a newer release. For me full install ist the best solution. And if you want downgrade you can install an older release over the new one.

(OK, only on solaris we has had some small problems)

Only problem is that the full installer for 6.0.3 isn’t yet available today for download on our passport advantage website. They told me it’s supposed to be there after 20-OCT-2003 but my boss is impatient for me to install it onto one of my servers for testing.

Check your passport advantage site again. The passport site for one of my clients already has the 6.03 full install (it was actually posted about 3-4 days before the incremental install).

In general, I avoid the incremental installers. I prefer the full install because I never have to worry about keeping track of the old version. The incrementals must be used in sequence so to me it isn’t worth the trouble. Unless I have an emergency fixed by a specific release and can’t want the day or two for the full install to be posted, I skip incrementals.
