Filing re-sent email in original folder

This may sound trivial to the experts but it causes me and my colleagues a lot of wasted time, and our own technical support department believe there is no current solution so I am hoping a very clever techie out there may know an answer. We are Users of 8.5 We maintain several hundred separate email Folders so selecting a specific Folder to store a Sent email can take a relatively long time. Many of the emails being sent are existing emails filed in Folders and just being resent (as a follow-up.) When we ‘Send & File’ the Sent email, we have the laborious process of selecting the same specific Folder (that we are sending the email from) in order to store the latest iteration. Is there a Mail Preference setting that will automatically offer the specific Folder, we are currently in, to store the Sent email? I am sure our need must be shared by many NOTES Mail uses and I am sure that an earlier version of NOTES used to do what we need. Can you help please?

Subject: keyboards or rules

I don’t know of anything doing that automatically, and I’ve been working with Notes for 10+ years. But I do have a couple of suggestions:

  1. when the “select a folder” option comes up, you can hit a letter on the keyboard to go to the first folder that begins with that letter. this eliminates most of the tedious scrolling.

  2. another option, if your emails have any pattern, would be to use rules to move messages to specific folders. Keep in mind that rules are applied to any INCOMING messages, so (a)you would send yourself a copy, not “send and file” and (b)any messages incoming from other sources would also be filed into those folders UNLESS you specify the sender is yourself.

If it makes you feel better, I am working with a customer right now who uses Outlook 2007 for corporate mail, and it doesn’t even HAVE Send & File…I had to write a script to give myself that option, because having to go to the sent folder and dig out an email to file it every time is CRAZY.

Thank you for your suggestions.Re keying a letter to link to the Folder with the same letter, the problem is that we have dozens of sub and sub-sub folders of main Folders so that does not really work.

Re Rules, I will explore that but suspect they may cause differnt problems.

Thanks anyway. I find it strange that it is not a standard feature because I imagine lots of Notes users need to file emails back to the same folder.
