Field didn't pass validation

Hi. I have a @dblookup formula stuck in InputValidation to make sure that the data a user enters if valid. Here’s my InputValidation formula:

value:= @DbLookup(“”;“Notes1”:“Engreg.nsf”;“All Documents”;ECR;5);

@If(responsibility=“Engineering” & value = “”;“Eng Change Request # Required if Engineering is Dept Responsible”;@Success);

Now whenever I try to save the document no matter what is in the field, it gives me the following error:

“field didn’t pass validation formula”

What in the heck am I doing wrong? (Be gentle… I’m winging my way through this. Unfortunately I’ve never had any training on Domino).

You need to use @failure and @success in your input validation formula - like so:

@If(responsibility=“Engineering” & value = “”;@Failure(“Eng Change Request # Required if Engineering is Dept Responsible”);@Success);

Thanks for the response! I changed my formula as follows:

@If(responsibility=“Engineering” & value = “”;@Failure(“Eng Change Request # Required if Engineering is Dept Responsible”);@Success);

and I am still getting the “field didn’t pass validation” error message. Is there something else I’m missing?

Thanks again for your help!

In what field did you put the validation formula in? Are you sure your dblookup is working? use @prompt to verify the dblookup is working.

Are you sure the value is not “ENGINEERING” or “Engineering” - it is case sensistive.

The way you have it coded, check if your lookup is blank and the user has engineering in the responsibility field, if so, fail, otherwise it should pass.

Where on the form is the responsibility field, above or below your validation formula?

I don’t really get what you are trying to accomplish - backup and give us more of your requirement at a higher level - this sometime helps when telling the forum your goal instead of the detail.

I put the validation formula in the engineering change request # field (ECR).

I double checked and the department responsible is “Engineering”.

The responsibility field is above the validation formula.

I tried using @prompt to verify the lookup was working and it still gave me the “field didn’t pass validation” error.

I placed @prompt([ok] ; value) in the ECR inputvalidation formula in place of the failure/success formula. Did I do that correctly?

Oh yeah… forgot my goal! My goal is to force a user to key in an engineering change request number if the department responsible is engineering. The engineering change request number should be verified against the “Engineering Change Request” database to make sure they don’t just put in a bogus number.

Thanks again!

I replied on your other post for the same problem, with a possible solution.Link.
