Hi,We’ve just upgraded to 6.5.1 from 5.12 and I’m trying to use the spam rules to cut down on the junk we get. I’ve read the Redbook talked about but my question is, nowhere have I seen anyone mention wildcards in the rules ie Delete mail where subject contains iagr, or … Will these work?, as these toerags are getting clever and putting in all sorts of squiggles to get round the blocker. Roy, You can create wildcard matching mail rules using no.Spam.domino (to generate the rules for the r6 server) … there’s also a bunch of other rule types that you can use including bayesian and message checksum rules. I want to make sure to not “over-state” what Domino alone can do. Domino is a great tool in the defense of SPAM, but it is just one of many layers. You may want to also investigate a 3rd party tool from one or IBM’s many business partners who specializes in SPAM. Using a combination of filters, mail rules, DNS checks, anti-relying, etc… is the best defense.
That said, to answer your question, rather than using wildcards, take a look at how rules perform using the “contains” vs “is”.

Oh I’m quite sure that the Notes Anti Spam stuff is much enchanced with a third party product. I have the Symantec product, which although not often mentioned, we get it as a bundle and it’s inclusion is the next step. We are careful with our money so I’m not convinced I can make a case for buying one of the other products.However, I have used ‘Contains’ rather than ‘Is’. Disregarding the Case issue (are rules case sensitive?), my rule initial rule is:- “When subject contains … don’t deliver message”, we still get messages with 5 or more dots in the Subject. I’ll admit I’ve messed up the rest of the rule by saying “or Sender contains sex or Sender contains iagra etc” instead of “Subject contains”, but I feel the dots issue is still relevant.
