False name resolution for mail with "F9"

If “F9” is typed after entering only 3 or 4 characters of an existing name, either the name is not found orit is often missing in the list of ambiguous names returned. If one pauses to let “type-ahead” resolve the name,

typing “F9” will return the correct e-Mail address.

This problem was reported by users with poor response times. They entered “F9” before resolution of the name.

The problem is reproducible on other systems if “F9” is entered quickly after 3 or 4 characters.

The “type-ahead” setting is “Local then Server”.

Is this a known problem? Is there a work-around or fix for it?
