Failure to backup ID File

Since starting to use the Notes 7.0 Gold (client and server) I’ve been seeing these failures:

12/28/2005 06:32:53 AM Backup of user ID is required. User ID will be sent.

12/28/2005 06:32:55 AM Failure to mail backup recovery ID file for Backup of recent changes to ID file for Lionel B Dyck/CA/KAIPERM to KP ID Storage: Operation stopped at your request

Any pointers to a fix?

I presume you mean you get this error when creating ID’s.

You need to add this info into the ID “Recovery Information” of the cert ID. Do this from the admin client “Configuration > Certification > Edit Recovery Information”. In there the bottom half is labeled “New/modified IDs will be mailed to the address below”. Enter a valid email address. I send it to a mailin db dedicated to backup IDs.

Actually this error occurs everytime that the Notes client is started and can be seen in the users notes log.

These new log messages were added to ND7 to help admins diagnose configuration problems in ID File Recovery.

From those messages, it appears that your ID file has been recently changed (or recovery information was recently added or updated) and now the ID file needs to be backed up. However, the attempts to mail an encrypted backup to the backup repository (KP ID Storage) are failing. I’d suggest attempting to send an encrypted backup manually through the “Mail Recovery ID” on the main tab of the User Security Dialog, and checking your email configuration and the configuration of that mail-in database if that fails.

Lionel,

you get this error ( KP ID Storage: Operation stopped at your request) if the mail-in database is not reachable.

(2 entry’s with the same name in the NAB 1) user 2)mail-in database?)
