Failover for IMAP server

Hello Friends,

In our mail system we are plannig to come across failover for IMAP servers. But we are not coming to any conclusion for implemeting it.

Some technotes are discribing that to cluster IMAP u need OS level clustering which I dont want to implement.

Any way we can do it domino clustering for IMAP service.

Do u have any idea about ICM ?

I believe ICM is for browser access only. The only solution I know of would be some kind of Round-Robin DNS service. That way, each time DNS is queried for the address of the server, the next address in line is handed out. It’s probably a better solution for load balancing, but at least, half of the users would still be able to access their mail in case of a server failure.

Hi,

You can very well implement that using ICM.

1.Follow the procedure for implementing ICM.

2.Enable ICM on Both servers and run ICM on Both servers

3.configure DNS server with 2 servers refering to same URL{specify this UPl name in ICM configuration settting}

While configuring accounts in Microsoft outlook specify this URL as incoming and outgoing server.Since the Url is same for both servers eventhough ther is failure of onserver it will redirect to another server and user can able to access mails without any difficult.

Hi

No need for os Clustering.You do the neccessary settings in DNS as sugessted and implement ICM.It will work fine.
