Hi , We are tryinbg to upgrade the existing mail server R5.0.5 to R6.5.4 on win2003 SP1 server on a different machine. However the customer we are doing this work have users who are on R 5 clients and they dont have the required infrastructure to upgrade their hardware to support R6.5.4 client for few users .So What we did was we upgraded the server and used the load convert utility to upgrade the template .We aLSO UPOGRADED THE ADMIN CLIENT .However those users whom we havent yet upgraded their R5 client to R6.5.4 have some problem in accessing the mail file .My query is
1.Should we upgrade the users to R6.5.4 client then run the loads convert task for that particular user .

Well, that was your mistake; read on.
Should we upgrade the users to R6.5.4 client then run the loads convert task for that particular user?
Yes. Even the least-detailed documentation on upgrading stresses not to upgrade a user’s mailfile design until that user’s client has been upgraded to the client version which can “handle” that design. Run the convert task again to switch the template back to an R5 design until the client software can be upgraded.

Hi , Thanks for your comments .Indeed it was a mistake. We did ran the load convert task and revert back to R5 format .Then we tried the upgradation of one client and appled the load convert task for that user.nsf .it was a successful upgrade. What we now plan is we will upgrade the users clients and then run the load convert to upgrade the template.
Actually when we did that mistake we were facing some error on opening the mail file on he user R5 client .It was giving some error that option not found…invalid formula etc etc .even the local replicas were not opening in the right fashion.Lets see what we we face after doing this ?Will keep posting the results .Thanks once again .
