Extracting address data from Active Directory

Hi all,I’m in an organization where we use both Notes and Outlook.

This means we created 2 address books in Lotus Notes, 1 for our Notes users and 1 containing all the Outlook addresses.

Every day we receive a flat file, with all the updates done to the Outlook address book, the file goes through a whole process, which at the end updates the address book in Notes.

We are trying to investigate, if we can’t extract the data from the Outlook address book (Active Directory??) directly into a Lotus Notes address book.

Has anybody done this before? Maybe with LDAP?

Can anyone give me a few pointers on how to set this up and which problems we could be encountering?

We have a Lotus Notes / Domino Import utility you can freely download from our website. One of the features of it is the ability to extract contact records directly from Microsoft Outlook into Notes/Domino (address books) and it will match / update existing records.

You can download it from:

Hope it helps.

Can it also extract from an Exchange server? That was actually what I was looking for.

Via Microsoft Outlook it will extract the contacts directly off the Exchange server. Give it a try and see how it goes. You can extract either personal or public contacts.

this seems to be a solution that needs to be implemented on a client with Outlook installed. I’m really looking for a way to let the Domino server extract the data and update the address book in Lotus Notes.

Yes you are correct in that Outlook needs to be installed because it used the Outlook Object via OLE / VBA.
