Exporting contacts by DWA-only user

I have several users that need to export their contacts, preferably into Excel, but a CSV file would also work. They have used iNotes and DWA for many years now and have accumulated hundreds of contacts. They have never used the Notes client (which was never installed for them). Can someone help me understand the process to get the contact information out of DWA into another mail system?

The iNotes contacts are stored in the user’s Mail database on the Domino server and can be exported from the ($Contacts) or ($iNotesContacts) view, or you can build your own view to export them. To get to this view, either open the mail database in designer or hold down the Ctrl-Shift keys while selecting View-Go To from the Inbox and then choose the view from the selection window. From the view you can then export all contact information.

Subject: only if…

this is ONLY true if you have used the “Synchoronize Address Book” feature from within the Mail File. If they never did that… then they won’t be there. They are in the local names.nsf

Subject: only if… But that’s the catch

These users have never used the notes client, so there is no personal names.nsf.

Thank you Carl, I guess the process to extract the addresses is going to involve the Notes Client somehow.

Other webmail systems allow users to import and export contacts using a web interface.

Well, I was assuming that SOMEONE there would have the notes client (at least an admin client) who could export the files for the user. The other option is to use a tool which would save the HTML as text, then you could edit it and pull it into excel…then again it would be faster to install a notes client and access the DB on the server to export.

From the Contact list in Notes… Click File - Export

Choose “Comma Separated Value” OR Lotus1-2-3*

Give it a file name… (matching the choice made above) and GO!

Note: We use Lotus1-2-3 because it opens from Excel!
