Execution control List (ECL)

i have read about ECL in the help file, but still now i haven’t clearly understood it, Please briefly describe with examples.

Subject: Execution control List (ECL)

Hi,

Whenever you make a change to the design of a DB you sign it with your id. If the desigh element you sign has code in it you’ll also sign that code (e.g. an agent, or form event). The ECL determines who (which id’s) is allowed to run specific code on the server.

Actually, ECLs monitor the execution of code in the Notes client, not on the server. You can see users settings in their Security Preferences.

For example, your ECL says that code signed by “James” is not allowed to access the file system. Then you click a button that runs an agent that James wrote, which reads your C drive. Notes will prompt with an Execution Security Alert (ESA) saying “Code signed by James is trying to access your file system. Do you want to: 1) not allow, 2) allow once, 3) allow from now on”.
