Exchange 2007 to Domino 8 migration

I am about to migrate our “old” Exchange 2007 to Domino 8.02 (yes you heard it :o) - great!, however my optimism have faded a bit…

To test things out, I created a WM Ware image of the exchange 2007 server and have since ‘played’ around with the image on my laptop in order to try and find the best way of migrating my 38 users and 11 groups - so far this havent’ been easy, as I am beginning to suspect, that the tool supplied in Domino 8 isn’t cabable of converting my Exchange 2007 mail - I’m following the instructions from the exchange 2003 to domino 7 from redbooks (…as there is not a 2007 to 8!) I register persons and select migrate - then select Exchange and my exchange admin profile - the users are shown, and I pick one of them just to test it, I make sure there’s a tic in “Convert mail” and then, the user is created - a mailbox is created but… it’s just a fresh new notes mailbox with none of the old mail from the exchange mailbox ;(

I have tried doing it some other ways (selecting the user from AD instead of choosing exchange and such) one time I got an errormessage telling me that the Outlook.ost wasn’t compatible - I’m confused, I must admit, and a bit frustrated.

so after this long story, does anybody know a way of converting my exchange 2007 mailboxes and groups to Domino 8 ?

kind regards

JK

Subject: Use CMT for Notes from BinaryTree

I would recommend using a third party tool like CMT for Notes (http://www.binarytree.com/website/msg/home.nsf/vContentW/CMT+For+Notes--CMT+For+Notes!Opendocument) from BinaryTree (http://www.binarytree.com). For the small fee per client it is well worth the investment. I have successfully used the CMT for Notes tool to migrate many large organizations from Exchange to Notes/Domino.

Rick is right.

I did the same thing a few months ago. I had look at the built-in functionnality of Domino but i was having a few problems.

Also, be aware of the archive files of your users, buy enough licences.

CMT is the perfect tool (NO , i don’t work for them:-)

Subject: Transend is also very good…

Subject: do it yourself…

Hi,

i also had to migrate several people. In my case it was from Exchange 2003 to Domino. But since they already used Lotus as their primary email System i only had to migrate their old mail. Since the DUS simply cut off several attachments, we worked out a more… manual approach.

  1. Install the Thunderbird Client on the users PC

  2. Migrate the old Outlook mail to Thunderbird (this will migrate all Data associated with the current Mail Profile)

  3. Connect to the Domino server using IMAP

  4. Move all folders to the Domino Mailfile over IMAP

But beware, IMAP also caused us some problems. So we had to open (and hereby index) all Folders in Thunderbird once before we were able to drag and drop them over. Also i wrote an action that scans the Thunderbird clients mailfolder structure and recreates it in Notes, but this might not be neccessary.

Hope this short guide helps you with your task, it definitly save mony and is applicable for the number of users you have to migrate.
