Evaluation Problems

Hi,

I’m a relative newbie to Lotus Notes so please accept my apologies if I’m missing some very basic steps here.

I’ve downloaded the Domino 8 Server eval at the beginning of last week and we are having the devil of a time getting it going. We are installing on a Windows 2003 SP1 server, fresh out of the box.

The installation runs through smoothly and then when we try and start the server it complains that “Ensure that you are running Domino with a valid license file”.

I thought that the server would generate an eval license by default. We have Google’d and can’t find any resolution that matches our situation.

We have re-installed Domino again

We have un-installed and re-installed Domino

We have rebuilt the server and installed Domino again

We have installed Domino on a separate machine running 2003 server

We have installed Domino on a separate machine running XP

We always get exactly the same problem. So we’re either missing something fundamental or the installation is FUBAR’d.

I’ve tried to download the eval again today just to make sure that the download wasn’t corrupt but the IBM site will only offer me the 7.0.3 client for Mac???

Can anyone give me a clue as to what’s going on?

Many Thanks,

Nik

Subject: Response

Nik,

There’s a problem with the eval version of 8. The license file expired at the end of June, and we’re working to fix the problem. I imagine that’s why you cannot find the download at this time. If you shoot me an email at chads@us.ibm.com, I’ll see if I can get you a new license or at least information on when a corrected version will be posted. Please include your domino8.tab file with the email. Thanks!

Subject: facing same problem Domino server 8.0 on Linux server RHEL 5

I have downloaded Domino server 8.0 june 30.

Tried to install in on Linux server RHEL 5.

ERROR

"An error occurred during license use management initialization. Ensure that you are running Domino with a valid license file.

(OK)

"

Earlier i ran Domino 8.0 + sametime 8.0 on RHEL 5 which got expired, as was evaluating the features so downloaded new copy of domino 8.0.

looking into some posts on this forum e.g tried

1)say to delete pid.nbf file 2)verify domino8.lic & nodelock file in data directory.

as per your discussions do i need to download new tar file (domino server)

if you suggest some solution will be of help.

Subject: Working on building a new license

We are working on building a new license for the trial version of Domino 8. If you are evaluating the software in a test lab that has no connection to a production Domino environment, then you could set your system clock back (the license expired on June 30, 2008) and test in that manner. I must caution that this is a practice you would never want to implement in a production environment.
