I have a problem occurring recently. I have 3 servers in my domain. Server A is a mail server. Server B is an application server. Server A and B in the same location. Server C is in other location and is mail and application server.Server B and C are connected thru a connection document, for replication tasks only (mail routing disabled). The replication type is Pull Push from Server C.
Applications in Server B send mail to internet thru Server A.
The problem is an error in Server B’s Log:
04/01/2007 09:07:56 Error connecting to Server C: The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.
04/01/2007 09:07:56 Router: No messages transferred to Server C via Notes: The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.
I don’t know why Server B is trying to connect to Server C for sending mail, it should be thru Server A. I have held mail (internet mail only) in Server B’ mail.box
Anybody can help me? Thanks a lot.
Subject: Error connecting to server (serverName)
It is likely that servers B and C are in the same Domino Named Network OR that A, B and C are all in the same Domino Named Network, but server C’s name is alphabetically higher up the list than server A’s.
Servers in the same Domino Named Network (or Notes Named Network) route mail immediately and do not require a connection document to do so.
You can find out what DNN/NNN a server is in from the server document → Ports → Notes Network Ports . For example you would commonly see:
Port |Protocol | Notes Network | Net Address | Enabled
TCPIP |TCP | TCPIP Network | 192.100.100.1 | Enabled
If all of your servers say the SAME thing in the Notes Network bit then they are all in the same NNN/DNN.
To change, edit the server document for server C, change the text in the Notes Network to something else e.g. TCP LOC C, save and close, replicate address book throughout and then restart the router task on all boxes. You MAY have to restart the Domino server itself for it to recognise the change.
A, B and C should all be in different NNNs if you want to determine your mail routing topology purely using connection documents.
