Error connecting to server {Server Name}: Remote system no longer responding

Hi,

I ask for your help in the belows. I found many similar topics here but with different syptoms.

Server becomes unavailable for clients every day at the same time (9:20-9:30 AM) but only on weekdays.

Few minutes later got error message in the server log: Error connecting to server {Server name}: Remote system no longer responding

Server is “pingable” and 1352 port is up but can not Trace itself.

Console works so every day I try something new to solve the problem. One day helped if HTTP server was stopped but another if Indexer was stopped. In these cases databases became suddenly available.

If I type >quit Domino shuts down normally. Windows reboot is not needed.

I tried to stop different tasks before the critical time period each day (Agent Manager, HTTP, Indexer, Rooms and Resources) but

the problem occurs again.

Server is member of a cluster but I disabled cluster port and stopped cluster related tasks, too.

Fully qualified host name is correct in server doc.

One of the databases uses MS Excel functions so MS Office has to be installed on the server.

Now I run nfixup -J -F -L on all databases while server is down.

Maybe a doc or an attachment causes the problem.

If you have any idea what to check or trace or log

please do not hesitate to post response!

Thanks in advance!

Laszlo

Subject: Error connecting to server {Server Name}: Remote system no longer responding

Works well now. During last weekend maintenance timeframe the belows were performed.

  1. Scheduled compact -B ran on Saturday.

  2. I made nfixup -J -F -L for all databases while server was not running. It reported error with fixing views in two databases. updall -R was run on that DBs and after that fixup did not complained.

  3. I did not want to upgrade Domino only as a last solution. I installed fixes for MS Office.

Server has no problem since yesterday. Seems that this symptom is general and known by many of us but the reason is different in every case. I hope that what helped were these steps and problem will not occur again.
