Error After upgrading to Notes 8.0.2 Client

Hi Guys,

Hopefully some-one can help with this. Planning on upgrading to 8.0.2 client at the moment with smart upgrade. I have upgrading a small group of users and about a third of them after upgrading revived an error in Lotus Notes. Whenever they click on anything the recive ‘an error has occured check notes eror log for details’. Then if the click on OK its works until they click on something again and receive the error. So it works but they receive an error when ever they click on anything, pretty anoying.

I was able to fix the error by deleted the workspace folder in the data directory and restarting notes, but now I’m a bit concerned about doing the rest of the users if a third may get this problem. Anyone seen this or have a clue what it could be?

Thanks

Paul

Subject: More info needed on Notes 8.0.2 client issue

I think you may need to provide some more information for anyone to be able to help you.

You say the error message is “An error has occurred. Check the notes error log for details.” I know that text is unhelpfully vague. Is there no other clue provided?

Is this with Notes 8 Standard or Notes 8 Basic clients (or both)?

If you’re using both clients, is it only happening with one of them?

What (if anything) is recorded in log.nsf on the machines experiencing the errors?

If this is happening in Notes 8 Standard, are there any errors in the Eclipse logs? (Look in the \workspace\logs folder under the Notes data folder.)

You say the error happens when they “click on anything”. Is that anything at all, right from the login to Notes? Or is it anything at all after a certain point? And if so, what’s that point, what happened to trigger it? Or is it only clicking on some things that causes it?

Which version of Notes are you upgrading from?

You say that deleting the Workspace folder fixed this. Does it also resolve just by restarting the client, or is the folder deletion required?

With that info, someone might be able to point you in the direction of a fix.

Subject: More Info

Hi Rupert,

Sorry, I know it was a bit vauge.

Its Notes 8 Standard Client upgrading from 8.0

Nothing out of the ordinary is in the log.nsf only policy updating lines.

It happens when they open up an email, exit an email, close any tab, change to a different tab, open up any contact and close a contact. It doesn’t happen on some custom built applications / databases.

The deletion of the workspace folder is required to fix it, restarting does not.

On checking the Eclipse Logs I can see a whole lot of errors:

Problems occurred when invoking code from plug-in: “org.eclipse.ui.workbench”.

Unhandled Exception

Problems occurred when invoking code from plug-in: “org.eclipse.ui.workbench”.

Unable to execute early startup code for an extension

Could not create action delegate for id: com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.meetings.acailableToolsAction

Internal plug-in action delegate error on creation.

Could not create action delegate for id: com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.meetings.tetsMeetingAction

Plug-in com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.imhub was unable to load class com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.imhub.actions.PrivacyListActionDelegate.

Unable to execute early startup code for an extension

Widget disposed too early!

So from the look of that I guess it looks as though the problem is eclispe, but why could it be happening?

The only thing I can see that could be a bit wrong is in the Smart upgrade Kit, under install types, it is set to All clients, not Notes client only. However if it is set to Notes client only the clients don’t recognise the upgrade.

Thanks

Paul

Subject: Error upgrading to 8.0.2

Hi Paul,

I think you will find that using the ‘Smart Upgrade’ from 8.0.0 to 8.0.2 is a bit flaky. We have found that upgrading from either 8.0.0 or 8.0.1 can end up with a few Java based errors. We have found it is better to completely uninstall the previous version and start with a new install of 8.0.2. We have no problems upgrading from 6.5.* at all it is just the previous 8 versions of the software. We have tried both the ‘Smart Upgrade’ feature and an Altiris ‘Packaged’ install with the same results.

Regards,

Ron

Subject: Related Sametime option

This happened to me when I upgraded (not using Smart Upgrade just the install program).I had delesected the sametime option during the install and was getting the same errors (the previous version had the sametime option installed).

When I re-installed and selected this option the errors went away.
