Encryption problem after name change (maybe)

Hi,

I have a user who has created some encrypted documents for his staff but when they open them, they get an error saying 'Parts of this document are encypted…" and they can’t see anything in the encrypted fields. This works fine for all other managers and staff. The only difference is that this manager changed his name recently so, would that have an affect on these documents. I don’t think so myself but as it’s only with documents he has created doing this, I can’t help but think it is causing the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi

What do you mean with “changed his name”…

The encryption key is attached to an ID-file.

Most of the time (at least !), a name changing into the address books means a new ID-file…

Subject: Rename shouldn’t be relevant

A name change won’t replace or remove any of the keys in the ID file, so shouldn’t be relevant unless the admin created a new ID file with a new name instead of performing a rename operation on the existing user.

How are the documents being encrypted? Are they encrypted for the recipients’ public keys, using a shared secret key, or both? When you look at document properties for these documents, for whom are they encrypted?

Hi Dave

sorry for the slow response (been on a course). I didn’t think it should change the keys but i couldn’t think of anything else. They are just using public keys (PublicEncryptionKeys field). They are encrypted for the right people.
