Enable Synch Contacts on Replicator - will this work with 8 client and 7 server and mail template?

Does anyone know if Enable Synchronize Contacts on Replicator works if the user has the 8 client installed, but the server is still on 7.0.2FP1? User is using Web Access 7 mail template.
