This is strange. I had a user, and I was forwarding his mail to another server. Now I dont want to forward his mail anymore, so I took the mail forward out of the person document in the domino directory.
Then, the user gets no mail. Thinking this “person” was currupted in some fashion, I deleted the user, the mailfile, the ID and recreated a new user ( same name ).
Person is in the address book, is able to send mail, able to get mail from the outside (internet) but if you send a memo from another internal notes user, it never even hits the server, and there is nothing bounced back.
I open the admin client only to mind these messages pending in the mail.box
I can send to everybody else in the same client, except for this one person…
I checked the Domino Dir, and compared his document to everybody else… looks the same to me… Why is Domino picking on this one person?

are you in a multi-server environment and if so have to replicated the changes in the Directory?
Subject: Have you checked the notes.ini file
on their hard drive? Perhaps that is still defaulting to the original forward address, if I am understanding you correctly. Just a thought. But you can check their name, the server name, etc. and edit the file as necessary. HTH Cathy

Somewhere this person still has a record of the mail forward… where else does the mail router look when sending mail?
When I look at the pending mail, it is still trying to send the mail to the other address specified in the old person document, even though I deleted the person and recreated him.

Did you check the Location settings to confirm that the home/mail server is correct.
Just an idea.

Once you have taken out the mailforward address from the person doc make sure you run load updall names.nsf in order to update the index. Otherwise the mail forward remains cached for a time period. How long? Can’t say. That’s why I force person doc changes (passwords, forwards, etc.) with the console command.

Here are some thing you should check:
-
Mail forwarding rule still active even you have deleted the rule. This is a bug not fixed untill R6.5.1. Check this if you need details: SPR# SYEE5UGQ7B.
-
A copy of the original personal doc may stay hidding as Replication/Save conflict. Search Domino Directory with the last name or full name. Remove this doc will help.

So far, Nelson is the closest.
I ran updall, and now the messages are at least bouncing back to me. Domino is still trying to forward the mail, to the address I had in the “mail forward” field in the person document. But I removed the record, even readded the user! Domino still has a this old address somewhere and is using it. Oh did I mention that the person I am having this problem with is the president of my company? Go Figure.

Tim,
Create a hidden “all docs” view and search for docs with the forwarding address. You may find one (an oldie I’m sure) stuck somewhere.
Another item to check revolves around whether or not you have Directory Assistance enabled. If so and if you are using a Directory Catalog check the dircat.nsf to see if the users entry has the forwarding in it.
Also, when you have some CPU to spare (after hours) run the updall with the -R option to rebuild all used views. In case a view has the “forwarding data” stuck in it.

I figured it out, took me all day and the answer was right in front of my face. Turns out, when I was testing this I was logged in as Notes Admin, and using the server console. The name of the person I was sending the mail to was in “Notes Admin’s local address book” (with the wrong address"…
But the strange part is, when I selected the name, I looked in the Public Address Book on the server, and not the local one. But when I sent the mail, it took the address from the local - even though I clicked on the address book for the domain. I did not realize that any of these users were in the local book.
I guess the local address book, overides any other address book even if the name was selected from the PAB.
Oh well, case solved.

Good job!FYI, The location document controls the search method for user email addresses. You’ll note that the options are Local, Local and Server. There is no Server only option - which is why I have to tell users over and over… never add anyone from the Directory to the PNAB. If they needed company addresses for offline use I set them up with the dircat.nsf.
Anyway, glad you got it.
