I need to be able to embed a view from a separate database in a form, which is in a template. Then I need to refresh that design out to other databases, but have the database that the view comes from depend on which database the form ends up in.
How can I dynamically select which database an embedded view comes from? Using replica ID would be ideal. Do any wizards know of any tricks? Do any Lotus people know if anything like this is on the horizon?
I can see how that weird little database picker (that apparently works from the recent databases bookmarks) could be useful in certain limited situations, but in my situation (and most others that I can think of) it’s just not.
Really we should have options for server & file name, and/or replica ID, and/or view name. Isn’t that obvious? What was the point in releasing this feature in such a limited way? These options are available pretty much everywhere else, it’s not like it would be blazing new trails.
I’m going to end up making this part of this form a into a subform which will have to be a custom design element that I set up in each set of client databases, and hope we don’t need to change it very often. I’d like to use this same kind of feature in several different places, so it will be a lot of what should be needless extra work. If anyone knows how I can avoid it all please enlighten me!
