I’m having an issue with the “Show Single Category” characteristic of an embedded view. The first categorized column in the view is a part number field and what I’d like to do is have the user define a portion of a part number they want to search for and have the embedded view show all of the entries that match that partial string (ie. if they enter “192” the view will show all entries that begin with those 3 characters).
Right now the embedded view is only showing the first entry that matches the string. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

“Show Single Category” will (not surprisingly) show only a single category. If you need a progressive display, you’d need to make a monster view categorized on the following sort of formula:
temp:= “”;
@For(i:=1;i<=@Length(PartNo);i:=i+1;temp:=temp:@Left(PartNo;i));
@Trim(temp)

This may be another dumb question, but what do you mean by “monster view”?

Think about the number of categories that the formula will create. Let’s say there were only two part numbers in the whole database, “ABCD-00003” and “ABCD-12345”. That would give the following categories:
A
AB
ABC
ABCD
ABCD-
ABCD-0
ABCD-00
ABCD-000
ABCD-0000
ABCD-00003
ABCD-1
ABCD-12
ABCD-123
ABCD-1234
ABCD-12345
Throw in two more, “WXYZ-99999” and “LMNO-51212” and now we’re up to:
A
AB
ABC
ABCD
ABCD-
ABCD-0
ABCD-00
ABCD-000
ABCD-0000
ABCD-00003
ABCD-1
ABCD-12
ABCD-123
ABCD-1234
ABCD-12345
K
KL
KLM
KLMN
KLMN-
KLMN-5
KLMN-51
KLMN-512
KLMN-5121
KLMN-51212
W
WX
WXY
WXYZ
WXYZ-
WXYZ-9
WXYZ-99
WXYZ-999
WXYZ-9999
WXYZ-99999
And that’s just the categories. Remember that there will be document entries mixed in there as well (with more entries falling under the shorter category values). Looks like a monster to me.
