Emails not listed in directory delvier to another database

Hi,

We have a large number of users that have left the company and their user documents deleted from the domino directory so when we receive emails to their old email addresses they are getting bounced as ‘not listed in the directory’

Is there any way that if we receive an email and the address is not listed in the directory it can be delivered to a default holding database so the mails can be checked and deleted (or unsubscribed from) instead of sending the bounce back?

Thanks in advance

Subject: hold undeliverable configuration

In your messaging configuration, you can set your mail.box to “hold undeliverable messages”. This is going to also catch spam messages sent to users who do not exist. The admin would have to go into the mail.box fairly frequently to clean them out. In addition, if you don’t have good spam blocking, there will be a lot of spam in there. If you ahve previously set your config to check for valid users before accepting messages (which helps greatly against spam), you would have to remove that.

A far better tactic would be to always designate a recipient for the emails of each terminated employee. Make this part of the termination procedure. Put the ex-employee’s email as an alias on the designate’s person document, and they will receive the deleted person’s incoming email. When they are tired of getting that person’s mail, the alias can be removed or moved to someone else. (Or - yes - you could set up a bogus person document/mailbox to alias all terminated users into and let management designate someone to go through them all.)
